There are a number of volunteer opportunities at Perimeter Institute that cover a variety of areas such as hospitality, administration, education, and leadership. Commonly required positions include: usher/greeters and administrative clerks.

Overview of volunteer opportunities

Perimeter Institute is passionate about sharing the excitement of scientific research and discovery. Perimeter hosts many events, including the popular Perimeter Public Lecture Series, community festivals like the BrainSTEM: Your Future is Now Festival, and webinars such as “What the Higgs is Going On?” Beyond education outreach, the Events Horizons arts and culture programming offers many stimulating opportunities for curious minds to meet and share ideas.

Mission/Code of Conduct for volunteers and the general public

Perimeter offers volunteer opportunities to interested members of the general public. Perimeter Institute endeavors to treat all employees, volunteers, and patrons with dignity and respect. All Perimeter Institute volunteers are expected to abide by and follow the Institute's Code of Conduct. Failure to do so may result in termination from the program. The Institute is grateful for the efforts of its volunteers. Perimeter will strive to host stimulating appreciation events specifically geared towards providing recognition to our many volunteers.

Health and safety for volunteers

Perimeter Institute is vitally interested in the health and safety of its employees, volunteers, and patrons. The Institute will strive to eliminate any foreseeable hazards which may result in fires, security losses, damage to property, and personal injuries or illness. Responsibility for maintaining a safe and healthy environment rests with every individual. It is imperative that all hazards are reported immediately to the Volunteer coordinator or immediate supervisor. Prior to any event/volunteer effort, volunteers are expected to review the Institute exits and emergency procedures.

PI commitment to Accessibility for Ontarians with Disability Act (AODA)

Perimeter Institute is committed to providing an environment that is accessible and inclusive to all persons who work, study, or visit the Institute (including volunteers, patrons, and third party contractors). The Institute will strive to ensure that its policies, practices, and procedures are consistent with the following core principles as outlined in the AODA:

• Dignity: Goods and services are provided in a manner that is respectful to persons with a disability and does not diminish the person's importance.
• Independence: Accommodating a person's disability means respecting their right to do for themselves and to choose the way they wish to receive goods and services.
• Integration: Persons with disabilities can access all goods and services. This may require alternative formats and flexible approaches. It means inclusiveness and full participation. This is a fundamental human right.
• Equal Opportunity: Service is provided to persons with disabilities in a way that their opportunity to access goods and services is equal to that given to others.

Liability waiver for minor volunteers

If you are under 18 years of age, you will be required to complete and obtain permission from a legal guardian prior to volunteering with Perimeter.
